The Rev. Joe Gunby was pastor of Oconee Street United Methodist Church from July 2016 to June 2019.
With a master of divinity from the Candler School of Theology, Gunby is currently pastor at Colbert and Comer UMC.
Throughout his career, Gunby has demonstrated a passion for spreading the Word and love of God to the imprisoned and the homeless. A licensed Pastoral Facilitator with the Georgia Department of Corrections, Gunby has facilitated ministry training at Phillips State Prison and serves on the Advisory Council for Kairos Prison Ministry. At Tenth Street, Gunby expanded an existing feeding ministry and created a ministry to host neighborhood homeless people, while also creating a vibrant college student ministry.
During his tenure at Oconee Street UMC, the church expanded its outreach to undocumented residents, increased its membership, established a Godly Play program for children, and developed plans for continued expansion of its facilities.
