Oconee Street supports the work of the Rev. Priscilla Legay Jaiah, a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church and the Superintendent of Ganta Mission Station of the United Methodist School in Liberia, West Africa.
Mission trips. Church members have participated in periodic trips depending on interest and availability. Recent trips include:
- 2018 Honduras – 2 medical providers spent a week giving medical care to villagers in a community health clinic with the Carolina Honduras Health Foundation.
- 2018 Honduras – 4 adults and 4 youth working with a local community on building projects and vacation bible school with HOI.
- 2016 Honduras – 5 adults partnered with homeowners in a small village in Olancho state to build stoves and latrines and to install concrete floors with HOI.
Becas con Bendiciones (Scholarships with Blessings) makes education possible for children in Honduras who otherwise could not afford to attend school, providing 100% of the school-related needs (uniforms, matriculation and maintenance fees, and school supplies) of those chosen for the program. OSUMC supports three students, Maria Ramaz, Brenda Castillo and Maicol Hernandez.
United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the humanitarian relief and development arm of the United Methodist Church through which OSUMC joins efforts with the connectional church to support selected domestic and international projects.
